Lake County Residents Affected by Recent Flooding Are Asked To Complete Disaster Assessment Form

Households in Lake County that experienced flooding or sewage damage due to the recent storms should fill out a Disaster Intake/Assessment Form online at www.in211.org. FEMA is using this link to determine damage and assess needs of Lake County residents. Simply click on the “Disaster Reporting-Lake County” tab at the top of the home page, and fill out online form. If you do not have access to the internet, you can call NWI COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster) office at 219-262-0059 or email destiny@unitedwaypc.org to obtain a paper copy of the assessment form. Please leave a message with your name, address, and telephone number. Homeowners are also encouraged to reach out to their insurance as soon as possible to see what kind of coverage they have for water damage.

There is only a short window of time to make sure water and sewage are dealt with before they cause health issues in the home. If you still have water in your basement you need to take steps to get it dry and keep the mold from growing. Purdue Extension offers online resource guides to help you make sure you are properly removing the water and cleaning the impacted area to prevent mold. You can view those resources at: https://www.extension.purdue.edu/extmedia/ACS/ACS-101-W.pdf.
