At its March meeting, Lake Area United Way's Board of Trustees approved a special emergency grant of $7,500 to assist with relief efforts in response to the tornados that hit parts of Southeastern Indiana on March 2.

The gift, made on behalf of our community, will be made to the Indiana Natural Disaster Fund set up by the Indiana Association of United Ways just days after the disaster.  The funds will go toward long-term recovery needs of non-profits serving the affected areas.

LAUW Finance Committee Chair Curtis Whittaker, CPA & President of Whittaker & Company, PLLC, local community-based United Ways across the country have a tradition of responding to national and international disasters such as 9-11, and the earthquakes and tsunami that devastated Japan in 2011.
